Evidence-Based Tools for Mental Clarity & Resilience
When stress, anxiety, or self-doubt take over, it often feels like external events are in complete control of your peace of mind. But the key to emotional freedom lies in how we process and challenge the narrative inside our heads.
"Think of therapy as learning a new set of skills. We aren't just going to talk about problems; we are going to look at the thoughts and beliefs driving your emotional reactions, and actively practice strategies so you eventually become your own therapist."
What We Can Work On Together
Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process, nor is it about fixing what is "broken" in you. It is a collaborative space where we gently explore the patterns holding you back and build practical tools to help you feel grounded, resilient, and at peace.
In my practice, I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) — two active, evidence-based approaches.
1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Understanding Your Mind
When we are going through difficult times, our thoughts can become overwhelming, distorted, or overly self-critical. CBT offers a supportive lens to examine these thought patterns without judgment.
Together, we will:
- Unpack overwhelming feelings: break down complex stress, anxiety, or sadness into manageable pieces so they feel less daunting.
- Identify unhelpful thought loops: recognise the subtle ways your mind might be jumping to the worst-case scenario or holding you back.
- Build practical daily tools: learn actionable strategies to respond to life's challenges with clarity and steady confidence.
2. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT): Reclaiming Emotional Freedom
Rigid internal expectations — the unspoken "I must not fail" or "Things should be different" — often lead to exhaustion. REBT helps you let go of these unrealistic demands and cultivate self-compassion.
Together, we will work on:
- Releasing self-criticism: shifting away from rigid "musts" towards self-acceptance and emotional flexibility.
- Transforming emotional distress: paralyzing anxiety or deep frustration become healthy, manageable emotions that allow you to move forward.
- Unconditional self-acceptance: discovering how to value yourself fully, even in moments of uncertainty.
How a Session Works: What to Expect
Sessions last 50 minutes, in the office or online.
If you have only ever experienced traditional talk therapy, your first CBT or REBT session may feel a little different. A safe, empathetic space is always the foundation, but our work together is active, structured, and focused on results.
- A true collaboration (an active partnership) — I am not only a silent listener. I bring the expertise in psychological tools and structure, while you bring the knowledge of your own experience. We work as a team.
- The bridge between thoughts and feelings — we examine the automatic thinking traps and the hidden rules that make difficult situations feel overwhelming, and test whether they are still actually helping you.
- Practice beyond the office (real life) — real change happens in your day-to-day life. At the end of each session we agree on small exercises or practical reflections for that week, building your independence.
Traditional Talk Therapy vs. CBT & REBT
To give you a clearer picture of how our work will feel, here is how a targeted, evidence-based approach compares to traditional open-ended therapy:
| Criterion | Traditional Talk Therapy | CBT & REBT |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Goal | Open-ended self-exploration and emotional expression. | Functional problem-solving and building practical skills. |
| Session Structure | Client-led, highly fluid discussion. | Structured agenda, regular check-ins, and practical takeaways. |
| Focus | Personal history and root causes in the past. | The factors that maintain the problem in the present (here and now). |
| The Ultimate Outcome | Deep self-awareness and insight. | Lasting change, emotional regulation, and practical self-help skills over the long term. |
